Subspace Reticulum is an early preview of a bold experiment in game development, blending classic deathmatch-style spaceship combat with cutting-edge artificial intelligence. Inspired by the beloved cult classic Subspace Continuum, this project reimagines the genre with a focus on creating dynamic, human-like AI opponents—pushing the boundaries of what NPCs (non-player characters) can achieve in video games.
In this fast-paced 2D shooter, you’ll pilot a spaceship through intense battles, facing off against AI-driven adversaries designed to feel distinctly different from traditional game bots. Powered by a 5-layer transformer model with positional encoding, the AI is trained on real gameplay data, delivering a unique and evolving challenge. While it’s still a work in progress, the AI’s potential shines through, offering a glimpse into the future of intelligent gaming agents.
Originally built in Python with PyGame and PyTorch, Subspace Reticulum has been re-crafted in MonoGame/C# for smooth performance and wider accessibility. Optimized for the M2 Mac, it runs seamlessly on macOS, with Windows support in development. The current model balances performance and capability, with scalability that promises even smarter NPCs as hardware advances.
More than just a game, Subspace Reticulum is a heartfelt homage to Subspace Continuum—a title that shaped my passion for game development and brought countless hours of joy. As servers for the original fade away, this project aims to keep its spirit alive, offering a timeless, pick-up-and-play experience for fans and newcomers alike. Whether you’re here to dominate the battlefield or explore the future of AI in gaming, Subspace Reticulum invites you to join the journey.

Welcome to Subspace Reticulum! This Privacy Policy explains how ThisOneThatOne handles your information when you play our game. We’re committed to keeping your privacy intact while you blast through space and tangle with our AI-driven foes. Spoiler: we don’t collect much—your interstellar battles stay on your device!
1. Information We Collect
Subspace Reticulum is a single-player experience, and we’ve designed it to keep your data local. Here’s the rundown:
No Personal Data Collected: We don’t gather personal info like your name, email, or device identifiers. No sign-ups, no accounts—just pure gameplay.
Gameplay Data: All action—your moves, shots, and victories—stays on your computer.
No Analytics (Yet): Right now, we don’t track usage stats or crash reports. If that changes (e.g., for updates or bug fixes), we’ll update this policy and let you know.
2. How We Use Your Information
Since we don’t collect personal data, there’s not much to use! What happens in Subspace Reticulum stays in Subspace Reticulum:
(Planned) Local AI Training: The game could use your gameplay to refine the AI’s moves at some point—think of it as your personal rival getting sharper. This will all happen offline, on your computer, and we don’t see a byte of it.
Game Experience: Everything’s geared to keep your battles smooth and epic—no data leaves for us to analyze or share.
3. Sharing Your Information
We don’t share what we don’t collect! No third parties, no advertisers, no sneaky handoffs—your gameplay’s yours alone.
4. Data Storage and Security
Where It Lives: Any data (like AI training tweaks) is stored locally on your computer, in the game’s directory. It’s as secure as your device.
Our Promise: I don’t have servers sniffing around—no cloud, no uploads, just you and your ship.
5. Changes to This Policy
I’m always tinkering (it’s a dev thing), so if I update the game—like adding multiplayer or crash reporting—I’ll revise this policy. Check back here or in-game for the latest (date at the top tells you when it’s fresh).
